The Garrick presents The Right Thing Tickets

The Right Thing by award winning Pendle playwright John Turley was first premiered at the Muni in 2011 where it was very warmly received by local audiences.

Set here in Nelson at the end of the Second World War, the men are returning home to women who have had to learn to live without them. As the play opens Frank is due to be de-mobbed and is desperate to simply pick up the pieces of his old life. His wife Alice has worked as a weaver and looked after her father but her life has been utterly transformed in unexpected ways.

The play takes us on a roller coaster of emotions as they struggle to put the war behind them and build a life for the future. All this against a backdrop of austerity and rationing and the determination of the British people to break with the past of unemployment and poverty and create a society based on fairness and equality.

The Right Thing brings this period vividly to life with its wonderful mix of drama, humour and even a medley of popular songs of the time.
