Flights of Angels Tickets

After two years with very little singing, we are delighted to bring you a varied concert of music from across several centuries.

Byrd’s luminous Five-Part Mass was written in the late 16th century and is considered a masterpiece of choral writing. Moving forward a century we bring you music by Johann Ludwig Bach, a third cousin of the great JS Bach.

From the classical period we will perform a selection of less well-known pieces by Mozart and Haydn, and by other members of the talented Mozart and Haydn families.

And finally, moving into the 20th century we have the haunting music of John Tavener. His Song for Athene, which incorporates words from Hamlet (May flights of angels sing you to your rest) is best known for having been sung at the funeral of Princess Diana in 1997. Tavener’s beautiful and austere Funeral Ikos written in 1981 has its origins in Russian chant.
